Day 15

Topic: Laying on of hands

Title: To be sure, to be sure!

Truth Verses: 1 Timothy 4:14 & 2 Timothy 1:6 Do not

neglect your gift, which was given you through

prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands

on you… For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

Truth Story: In 2004 I was about to return to Kenya East Africa to share at a leadership conference. I attended a prayer meeting the night before I departed. A young lady prayed for me, sharing that she had not laid hands on anyone before.  I remember the encouragement I sensed as she shared a prophetic word with me.  She had a picture of a spear running through my life and took the risk to share this word picture impression. Interestingly, the Kenyan flag has spears as its symbol! I sensed a confirmation of what I was about to do was right in the centre of God’s will for my life.

Truth Unpacked: God's use of the laying on of hands symbolizes the conferral of blessings, authority and distinctiveness. It is a symbolic act designed to represent God Himself setting a person apart for a holy use, whether for service, healing, protection and guidance or blessing.

The act of laying on of hands, signifies:-

·         Transference/ Identification – Lev 1:4/3:1-2/16:7-10, 21/2 Chr 29:23,24

·         Transmission - Genesis 48:14-19

·         Impartation - Lev 14:18,29 /Psalm 133

·         Blessing - Gen 48:13-14/Num 8:10/2 Kings 13:16-17/ Matt 19:13-15/ Mark 10:13-16

·         Commission/Inauguration - Num 27:23 /Deut 34:9/1 Tim 5:22/Acts 6:1-6/13:2-3

Our truth verse conveys the connection that is often found, throughout scripture, between prophecy and the laying on of hands.

The Purpose of Laying on of Hands is:

  •          To receive spiritual deliverance. Mark 16:17-18/  Luke 4:40, 41

  •          To receive the Holy Spirit. Acts 8:5,17/9:17/19:6

  •          Physical healing. Matthew 8:2-4, 14, 15; 20:34/ 19:13,15

  •          To confirm spiritual gifts. 1 Timothy 4:14  2 Timothy 1:6

  •          To commission for service (ministry)  Acts 6:1-6/13:2-3

Prayer: Lord, let faith arise, that the people I pray for, encounter a divine exchange.    Lord, let people know your love by my touch. May the words that you put on my heart and mind build them up (edify), stir them up, (exhort) affirm and encourage (comfort) them. Lord, confirm your word with signs following. Amen.
