Day 8
Topic: Faith towards God
Title: Acronym with meaning #1 F.A.I.T.H.
Truth Verses: Hebrews 11:6 ...And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who
comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Having understood repentance involves turning from sin, we now discover faith as turning to God.
Truth Story: Just like bungee jumping, the acronym Forsaking All I Trust Him, embodies the believing
trust essential as we leave our old life to live our new life in Christ. Emptying ourselves of sin, we must fill
our hearts with faith – accounted unto us for righteousness.
Truth Unpacked: When Jesus came preaching the Kingdom of God being at hand, He stated it was
essential to ‘Repent and believe in the Gospel.’ Paul reiterates this ‘from-to’ principle, to the church at
Thessalonica, explaining how serving the true and living God involved turning from idols and turning
towards God.
The Greek word for Faith, Pistis means “conviction, trust, holy fervour, belief, confidence, firm persuasion,
assurance.” To increase our Pistis, it is crucial that we read the scriptures; faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. This hearing of faith grows as we have the seed of the Word sown in the soil of our heart; watered, by the renewing and refreshing of the Holy Spirit. As Christians our lifestyle is to walk by faith; as the just shall live by faith. True faith involves 3 stages:
-
The Mind is informed by the Word of Truth Rom10:17 & Acts 4:4
-
The Emotions are stirred to feel joy Acts 8:12,8 & 1 Peter 1:8
-
The Will is committed to choose to obey Romans 16:26 1:5
This is evidenced in the life of Abraham in Romans 4 where it says
-
He was strong in receiving the promises by faith v 13,20 (mind informed)
-
He replaced hopelessness by believing in hope v 18 (emotions stirred)
-
He was fully persuaded that God would perform His promise v 21(choice persuaded)
Pray:
Lord increase my measure of faith this week to be reassured that everything is possible for one who believes.
