Day 3
Topic: Laying a strong foundation
Title: A triple braided cord
Truth Verses: Ecclesiastes 4:12 & Acts 2:38 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can
stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
Then Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission
of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Truth Story: Just as it is imperative that buildings are built on a sure foundation the Christian life is no different!
Just as a triple-braided rope or cord is stronger than a rope that is either single or double braided, Peter, at the
birth of the first Christian church at Jerusalem, establishes the three foundational components on which to base
our faith.
Truth Unpacked: The three fold response by the apostle Peter, to those experiencing Christ’s conviction and
forgiveness, is in found in Acts 2:38:
1) Repent and
2) Be Baptised in Jesus name for the remission of sins and you shall have
3) The Gift of the Holy Spirit, for the promise is to you and to your children too, as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Paul the apostle confirms these same three components in ' the first principles of the oracles of God.'(Heb 6:1,2).
This same triple-braided chord response to the Gospel is experienced by believers throughout the cities of Samaria, Caesarea and Ephesus (Acts chapters 8, 10 & 19)
We shall unpack the knowledge and understanding of these foundation stones (Heb 6:1,2) throughout this course.
‘Founds’ determine the stability, strength and structure of the building
Pray: Meditate on Peter’s response to the question “What shall we do” and ask yourself, have I laid hold of eternal life by establishing this unshakeable, solid and good foundation? Now pray Acts 2:38 inserting your own name into the verse.
