Day 16
Topic: Laying on of hands
Title: Nike Church - Just do it
Truth Verse: Mark 16:17, 18 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name
they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; ... they will place their hands on
sick people, and they will get well.”
Truth Story: The Tabernacle of Moses was the dwelling place of God in the Old Testament.
The curtain fabric of the tent-covering was undergirded by boards, held in place by the tenons, which from the original Hebrew means hands. Make two tenons in each board for dovetailing and fitting together; so shall you do for all the
tabernacle boards…Each board had two tenons (projections) to fit into a mortise to form a
clutch; he did this for all the boards of the tabernacle.
Truth Unpacked: The tenons, which fitted into silver bases, speaks to us of how we are to be fitted together, connected to each other, set in our place within the Church, Christ’s many membered body. These interlocking tenons or hands translated are: "set in order one against another"; "joined one unto another."
We have already looked at why hands are laid on people, but the key truth here from the tenons is that we all have a specific placement God wants us to discover, alongside others, to strengthen the local church. It is in the local church that God sets members in the body as it pleases Him.
When New testament prophets laid hands on people they said much to encourage and strengthen believers.
Prayer: Lord I agree with your Word and pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that I may prophesy. Fulfil your word Lord and pour out your Spirit on all flesh, that sons and daughters shall prophesy, young men shall see visions and old men shall dream dreams.
Help me find my place in your body - set me in a local church family that is hungry and thirsty for Your ways. Also, help me to “just do it” – to step out in faith, place my hands on the sick and see them recover through the power of Your name. ‘Come Holy Spirit move in my life, move Holy Spirit, to make me like Christ’. Amen.
